My girlfriend just called me and told me her roomate's name is Ke Wei and she asked me how to pronounce it. I'm not sure. She and I just sorta thought it would sound like Kay - Weigh. But we really have no idea, anyone know the correct way it should be pronunced?

LOL, why doesn't she just ask her roommate?

She received a piece of paper in the mail with her name on it. That's how it's done these days .. you find out via a letter weeks before you go away to school. She wants to call her but would rather correctly pronounce her name...

Actually, "Ke" should not be pronounced as "Key".

Try "Kurt" without "t", that name sounds like "Kur way".

Believe me. :)

I don't know about the "kurt"-'t'...wei is definitely "way", just depends on the tone

My input would be "key-way" as well.

Guess we'll find out. :)

It depends on the Romanization.

If it's pinyin, the official system of mainland China, then Ke sounds like "kuh".

I don't know much Chinese, so I can't say definitively. Most likely, the lady has an English name anyway.

i take Chinese.

Its 'keh' (as in uh, but with a k noise at the begginning. LIke 'can' without the 'n' ending. you get it) 'way' as in 'way to go' or i 'weigh' half a pound.

Its not hard.

edit: key-way is wrong. AFAIK, anyway, but I've had three years of the language and have yet to encounter a 'key' pronounciation.

its depends on which part of china she/or her family is from. the pronounication of a word is different in cantonese and mandarin
