Pronouce 'data' for me

It's funny listening to how some people say it while doing tech support. I've heard so many variations of it, and not because of an accent or anything either. How do you pronounce it?

It's not "tech support" people BrokenVisage, I blame ST: TNG! 😛

I hope your phonetic abilities are not a sign of your technical abilities. Anyhow, like the rest so far day-ta.

It's so hard to say "as the data show" or "the data suggest.." or "there are data" instead of "there is data"...
wait, is that right?

come to think about it i do say 'er' on the end too, never thought about it until i read your reply tho...

Date-a! On a related note, who considers it singular? One of my textbooks uses "data" quite often and it's always plural. "These data do this" or "data are highly skewed". It drives me freaking bananas.

I pronounce it both ways, so there! 😛

Unless, of course, I'm talking about something related to Star Trek and I need to say data and Data. Then I try to differentiate the two.
