does anyone know where I can find the drivers at for a Promise Ultra 66 card? I tried Promises' web site but the drivers are not their.. it is an ultra100 driver instead.

Another question is how do I boot up HD's from the card?? I am a complete idiot about doing this as this is my first time with cards like this. The manual does not help either. Please help!

Appreciated

kitkit201-
Go to this link to get the Ultra 66 Driver. The Ultra 100 driver is backwards compatible for the Ultra 66. It will work fine.
Just plug in the card to a preferably non-shared PCI slot. You will be able to access the drive at ATA33 until you load the driver for it. In other words data should just flow through.
Is this a new system or are you adding this card to a current system? If the later is the case then your system may or may not be able to read the data on the drive depending on what you have. All you can do is try!

sharkb8-

I tried those drivers and it didn't work fer meeh. is their something im doing wrong??
1) download drivers
2) extract the file into a folder
3) run 'add/remove hardware' and look for the driver.

however it says that their is no information for it. I checked the file i downloaded from promise too and it is for the ultra100, not ultra66.. doh!!

As far as booting to a HD on the ATA controller, set one of your boot devices to SCSI Adapter.

To install Ultra66 drivers:

In Device Manager, you'll have a category called Other Devices probably. In there will be PCI Mass Storage Controller. Double click on it, click driver tab, click update driver, next, search for best driver, click next, check box for Specify Location, browse to wherever you extracted the files to, click OK, click Next, it should find the drivers.

A SCSI adapter can be PCI, ISA, doesn't matter. As far as the system's concerned, the ATA66 controller is a SCSI controller, so no, it won't matter.

okay I know wha tyou are going through... just did this a few weeks ago.... put the card in the 2nd pci slot...... then go into bios and set your boot sequence so it says like a/scsi/crom or something like that..... then pop in your boot disk and cross your fingers...... make sure that you have your hd. detecting in the bios disabled. the card does that for you..... good luck.

Right now I have the Promise card supporting my cd drive and zip drive. I however can not get it the Promise card to boot up my HD. I tried changing the boot sequence to SCSI, but when it is suppose to boot up it doesnot but rather hangs the system. I think the SCSI isn't being recognized or something. I don't get it at all. Is there a special place to place the promise card. I have it on the first PCI slot below my AGP slot. Here is my setup:

Intel P2 @300MHz
192MB PC100
Pioneer DVD-105 16x/40x
Toshiba 32x
SB Live Value
Iomega Zip 100

Nothing special that shouldn't conflict with thigns.. UNLESS it is the BIOS!!~!! But I highly doubt it. Last time I updated it was 6/15/98.

Another thing, Can it be the cable wires I am using. I am using ata66 cables for all my parts inside (CDrom, zip, HD) does it matter which cables i use??

lepperboy:

I don't quite understand what you mean by this...

"make sure that you have your hd. detecting in the bios disabled. the card does that for you..... good luck."

You mean the auto detect IDE part? make sure to disable it?

I got this off of promise's website...

http://support.promise.com/trouble/problems_booting_ExistingOS_after_install_Controller_Card.htm

Here is what is happening to my computer:

Following the bios post and the loading of the bios for our card, Verifying DMI pool data and or updating ESCD will appear and the system will hang at a flashing cursor, either top or bottom of screen.

One of their solution is...

Reset Data Configuration (ESCD) -To Reset the ESCD you must enter your System Bios and then locate the option. In Most BIOS's it can be found under PCI/PNP Configuration, but this will vary from board to board, especially on boards with a Phoenix or AMI Bios.

Will this

kitkit201,
First try installing the Promise card in any slot except the first one. The first slot is usually shared by the AGP slot. Then try installing the zip as the slave to the CD on the primary on the mobo, the DVD as the master on the secondary of the mobo, and your hd as the master on the primary of the Promise card. Then go to the BIOS and set your boot sequence to either a:/scsi or CD/scsi depending on whether you are using a floppy or CD to boot. This setup should work. Hope this helps.

Those drivers did not work on my Promise Ultra 66. I thought i'd lost the driver diskette so I got the driver off the website. Well it didn't recognize the drivers at all. Luckily I found the diskette, but what kind of retards work at that company that the drivers don't work at all.
