Has anyone seen this issue before? Basically I have a fileserver running Windows 2003 Server with 2 Promise IDE controller cards on it. One is a Promse Ultra133 TX2 and another a Promse Ultra100 TX2. It seems as though the Promise Ultra100 TX2 is doing fine but whenever I'm trying to write to 1 particular hard drive connect to the Ultra133 TX2, I get errors in the Event Viewer stating that this particular card has an out-of-date firmware and Reduced performance may result.

On top of that, I get many Delayed Write Failed errors when trying to write to or copy to that hard drive. Using MaxBlast (b/c the hard drive is a Maxtor Hard drive), it detects no errors for that hard drive?

I also updated both cards to the latest BIOS available on the Promise website plus updated the drivers to the latest version for Win2k3. Performance has be heavily reduced causing my server to run at over 50% when doing large file transfers.

Has anyone seen these kind of errors before? How can this be fixed? It seems like I'm not the only one with this kind of problem and that it also affects Windows XP and Windows 2000.

i had similar problems with my Promise ultra133xt2 with win xp.. drives were working really slow. I updated my mobo chipset drivers and installed the latest drivers from the promise site and it fixed the problem. i didn't even need to flash to the latest bios.

Well, I have done the following:

1. Updated the chipset drivers using the latest Hyperion drivers
2. Updated the drivers for the Promise IDE controllers
3. Updated the firmware of the Promise IDE controllers

I'm still getting errors in the Event Viewer with messages still stating the same things:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: ultra
Event Category: None
Event ID: 26
Date: 4/10/2004
Time: 10:30:24 PM
User: N/A
Computer: <name>
Description:
The driver has detected that device \Device\Scsi\ultra1 has old or out-of-date firmware. Reduced performance may result.

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Disk
Event Category: None
Event ID: 51
Date: 4/10/2004
Time: 10:30:23 PM
User: N/A
Computer: <name>
Description:
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk4 during a paging operation.

By the way, here are the specs of my system:

Iwill KK266
Duron 1 GHz
512 MB
Promise Ultra100 TX2
Promise Ultra100
3x 160 GB Maxtor HDs
3x 80 GB Maxtor HDs
2x 60 GB Maxtor HDs

Any thoughts on how to fix this? Its becoming very frustrating!

It seems like from my testing, Win2k3 may not like VIA chipsets (at least the KT133A) or maybe its motherboard specific (Iwill KK266)? However, after I updated the drivers and installed the latest chipset drivers for my Abit BH7 under Windows 2003, these type of problems are non-existent?

Any thoughts?

Did you ever get this resolved?
I`m having the same issue on my file/a/v server
Its an Old school Asus p2b-F bx440 system
I have 3 drives on a Promise ata133Tx2 no problems here.
also 2 drives on a Promise ata100Tx2, my 80gb maxtor continuosly runs slow, and gets these delayed write errors, and the out of date firmware error.
tried updateing firmware/drivers and no change
