#2) The ring would mean that you intend to become engaged at some future time.

A promise ring can mean two things, so I'll give you both definitions.

Def 1:

A promise ring is a token that a man/boy gives his woman/girl whom he is dating. It is a symbol saying they are in an exclusive dating relationship, and plan to take that relationship further one day. Typically a promise ring is given when a real engagement isn't practical for whatever reason (under 18, living in seperate places, no money, only been going together for a short time). She wants one as a symbol of your love and commitment to her.

I've never bought my GF a promise ring. But have bought her rings. Like I've stated in another thread regarding relationships, the woman always wants something to look forward to. If she sees nothing in the future or is not assured of it, then she's gone. A promise ring IMO, is another way for a man to show that he believes they will be together in the future. A promise of trust and faithfulness.

The rings I've bought my GF are a mikimoto pearl ring, 2 24K rings from asia, and some silver tiffany rings. Yeah some of yo umay think it's crazy to blow all that money on jewelry, but it sure beats blowing it on chocolate or flowers which don't last.

Well, her ring ended up getting lost in my car.... We dated for 3.5 years, in college, and the last two years I had my own room/place. I'm not one to kiss and tell, but that should give you the right idea.
