Promise Raid Settings?

I have 4 quantum 8.4gb drives on a modded ata66 card. The thing i'm confused about is the cluster and stripe settings. i did a search on here and found the ems computing site. but how do i get the cluster size to multiply the number of drives to equal the stripe size? what does the last part mean? stripe size? Right now. i'm just running on automatic. and how do i format the drives with the "N" tag?

Thanks

to specify cluster size you need to format in DOS using commands. This is all I can remember. So bear with me.

format c: /z:n

N=64 is 32 cluster
N=32 is 16 cluster
n=16 is 8 cluster

Thanks for replying
So how do you determine what the cluster size is? how do you know which to use and which not to use?

Thanks!

that's what the article on EMS is all about. They've ran benchmarks and stated that stripe 64K and cluster 32K is the fastest of them all.

So.. this is what i came up with. so i format the drives at 128k=64k cluster and can i specify the the stripe size to 64k? or is it. set the stripe size to 128k and the cluster to 128k=64k? also.

Thanks
