Promise Raid question with Dragon+

Huggies

Banned
I have a dragon plus with one 60GB hard disk, LTD163 and an LTD24102B... Currently I have the 60GB HD on primary master and the CDRW as secondary master /w DVD-Rom on secondary slave... My question is this, is the onboard raid controller in ULTRA mode (none raid) faster than the build in VIA ATA100 controller? Does it have better driver support? In other words if I removed my HD from primary IDE and put it on primary RAID and connected the CDRW to primary master and DVD-Rom to primary slave would i see better performance mainly in the hard disk? I know alot of questions but I tried this already without changing the drive and it started to boot from the RAID then got a windows XP error saying the system stopped booting to prevent damage I assume because its looking for all the files on the wrong device is there anyway around that without reinstalling the whole OS with the HD on the RAID controller? Thanks for any help, oh yeah one last question, what IRQ will the raid controller take in WINXP?

I doubt very much that you would see any significant change in disk performance by moving the drive to the controller - it's supposed to act just like an ATA100 controller in Ultra mode. Now, how did you try using the drive exactly? You should have installed the Ultra driver first (with the disk still on the "normal" IDE channel), and then moved the drive over - is that the way you tried it? If so, then make sure you were using the proper drivers for XP from Soyo, and that you had the jumper set properly. In RAID mode, the controller uses IRQ 10 - don't know if that changes in Ultra.
