Promise RAID/Linux 2.4.12 problems

I'm using a Promise FastTrak RAID card (at least it's a RAID card now), it's BIOS configuration works fine, and it says it made a RAID 0 array with my two drives. I made a custom slackware boot disk with the 2.4.12 kernel, and it boots and detects the RAID controller (I have both the Promise 202xx+FastTrak support and IDE RAID-FastTrak support). When I boot it seems to go fine, and it detects my RAID controller, but it puts the two drives on hde and hdf. I suspect I have to tell the kernel to join them in a RAID array? Right after it finds the hard drives that and detects ide0, ide2, and ide3, it freezes. Any ideas about what's going on?

I have heard of the parport problems, but I don't have that compiled in to the kernel.😕
