Promise RAID controller concern

I have an MSI KT7266-RU mobo. It has the promise raid controller (don't know the model number but not of killer concern at the moment) integrated within the board. Recently the RAID array bios was flashing that one of my 2 RAID hdd's was in "critical" condition. Also another simple error was going on with the board both of which called for an RMA send in to solve both issues. The thing that is throwing me off is that I thought the RAID bios was faulty...... since when I put both raid hdds on another ide channel the SMART bios read that they were ok....so in recieving my new mobo from msi the same error is occuring. Worse yet....the "critical" hdd is the one that windows can actually see files on. The "fucntional" RAID hdd is the one that windows can't find files on.....sees it as completely blank (0KB) !!!! now mind you I thought I had a RAID 1 mirror array going on before all this hubbub came round...but when one drive reports no data on it ?! what does that mean ?! I even contacted msi about this...they said that I would only be able to see one RAID drive through windows...and the other would be a ghost in a sense but that the data would be written to the other even though I don't see the other drive as a confirmation of sorts. I took their word....Windows can read my "critical" hdd drive on the 2nd IDE controller in the master jumper and master cable set up with the RAID bios confirming the correct hdd. Windows cannot however read the 2nd RAID HDD (which the RAID bios says is "functional") when I put it on the same cable with the same jumper settings as the 1st RAID hdd. What's going on ?! Where is this "mirror"....is it a mirage ?!.What the hell is going on... who need I speak with to bring this issue to an understanding and close for myself lol.....anyone know....I'll be calling msi...but just thought I would try to get some wisdom here. thx for you time...

PS I don't boot from RAID....raid is separate.... oh....and the functional RAID hdd supposedly is now a striped array which I did not have it as at first...I had a mirror! and still want a mirror!...and the raid bios won't let me change to mirror!.....computer have minds of their own ?
