I have this "Raid Controler" I don't even use, but that I want to be detected because that yellow "?" is pretty annoying

I've tried looking on asus / promise website (promise says to look on asus website.. ohwell) as well as searching for drivers on the web for my comtroler witch is.. PDC20265r

I installed a load of versions of via 4-in-1s as well :|

I use windows XP.. but since more then on year I've never been able to install it... on XP/2000/98SE
Note that it was detected as a "PCI Mass Storage controller" instend of "Raid Controler" on win98SE

I don't have anything installed on none of my promise controlers.. I don't use em, I just hate having a conflict in my device manager, :(

I saw that.. but have never been able to get em working
BTW.. theres drivers for Netware, NT4, Win9x-ME, Win2000... but not XP, I'm just going to try again now, but I'll use win2ks driver, even tough I use winXP

*Edit*
So.. it says "This driver is not digitally signed" and wont even let me install, I get this big error message telling..

The installed version of the Promise filter driver is incompatible with Windows XP. Your disk drives will function under Windows XP with basic functionality. To preserve system stability, the full functionality filter driver is not loaded. Download the latest Windows XP-compatible filter device driver from the Technical Support section of the Promise Technology Web site.

I had the same mobo....just sold it to my sister. I ran 98SE at the time. The drivers from ASUS's and Promise's sites would not work. Only the drivers on the CD would work. I installed them thru the Device Manager screen (reinstall driver). On XP, I don't know.

If you don't use the RAID device, remove it from the device manager, then go into the BIOS and disable it then XP won't even detect it. It also will knock a few seconds off your boot time since the Promise RAID controller won't waste time looking for drives.

well I'm not sure if we can disable this
I did disable it from the boot... since the time I bough this board, I put the promise detection to OFF, is this the way to turn it off?

It's been a while since I used the board, but look in the BIOS. I think it's called "Onboard ATA 100". That's the Promise controller. Your other 2 IDE ports will still run at ATA100. Those are controlled by the chipset. Just go to your device manager and remove the "PCI Mass storage" first. Then reboot to the BIOS and disable the RAID controller. XP should not be able to detect it after that.

DougFrippon,

I've been reading a few days ago on the Promise website regarding this error in WinXP; they are suggesting to ignore it and proceed with the driver instalallation.

If you use WinXP, it'll detect and load the ata100 driver for the Promise controller.
You should be able to install the ata100 driver on 98 and 2k from the driver.
Just click through until you find the folder Promise-Ata100-Win98 or Win2k on the cd.

Since you don't use the controller, the best way would be disable the controller from bios, but if you can't,
at least you could get rid of the yellow ? from divice manager from installing the driver.

As I said, if you use WinXP, XP has a driver for Promise ata100. Don't need to install manually.

I saw the manual.
You could try to disable "Other boot devices", and also, "Load onboard ata bios".
If you still see it from device manager, disable it from properties tab.
It should work.

Hey, it works, let me know.
I have to build a system with this board, but don't need to use the controller.
I'd like to know it could be disabled.

Thanks.

You can definitely disable it thru the device manager, but then it'll have a "!" instead of a "?". :Q

Drivers for all OSes here... RAID with no problems in Win98SE, WinMe, Win2000, Win2k Pro using same mobo

EDIT: Hmm, link seems to not work. I had no problems finding them on the ASUS website--even with their new web layout. Now if you're not using the RAID portion--you want to use it as Promise ATA100, WinXP has native drivers for that--can update it via Windows update or ASUS' website.
