promise onboard controller doesn't see drives when a promise raid 5 card is installed?

just added a sx4000 lite to my fileserver, and all is up and working well except for one thing - the promise onboard controller on my 8inxp can't see any of the drives attatched to it. it loads during boot, but then says "bios not loaded becase no drives are attatched" I've tried replacing the IDE cable, made sure everything is enabled in bios and set to ata mode, but I can't get it to see the two attached drives. Anyone run into this before?

full setup:

gigabyte 8inxp
2.53 p4
1gb ddr 266
ati PCI 4 MB video
sx4000 lite + 4 250 GB
4 120 GB drives on main IDE
2 200GB drives on promise onboard controller (working, but doesn't see drives)

I've heard of some issues like that. Just checking to make sure you updated both BIOS' for the Promise controllers...
Tas.

hmmm. bioses should all be up to date. I think gigabyte only ever released one bios revision for the 8inxp...

I'll double check though.

I had the exact same problem with an SX4000 at work, where the JBOD (3x 250Gb drives) array we created to back up the server's 650Gb array, suddenly died and the drives weren't being picked up. We changed the cache DIMM on the controller and it worked again 😕

hmmm. I ran the memtest on the dimm, and everything came out ok...also update every driver and bios I could find, still got nothing.

I guess I'll try to reseat the dimm, I don't have a spare to try.
