Anyone have any Promise Ultra100 TX2 issues in Windows XP Pro?

I'm using the built-in promise drivers of course. since there are no WinXP-specific drivers, and that's what the website recommends.

However, on my Maxtor DM+ 60 (which is connected to secondary master on the card), when i do heavy I/O between it and the Primary Master drive (maxtor DM+ 40) the DM+ 60 sometimes seems to "hang". My mouse pointer is movable but nothing else is, so i have to hit the reset button. And after i reboot, the hard drive LED stays on, and the promise BIOS does not detect the DM+ 60 (altho DM+ 40 is detected).

i have to turn off the computer and turn it back on to get the DM+ 60 back "online".

any ideas?

*when I mean heavy I/O i mean some pretty heavy stuff... i.e. copying a Gig or 2 of data from the 60 to the 40. of course, the 40 is fine, it's the 60 that temporarily "dies". i dont hear any particular dying noises, however, and if i had a WinXP compatible SMART checker i could check the drive's status.

I have the Gigabyte 7DXR mainboard with built-in Promise controller. My WD 18GB hard drive had serious issues while running ATA-100 mode on the promise controller. WinXP would not shut down correctly. The drive would spin up and down twice upon reboot, and stay off. I had to manually press the reset button on my computer to turn the drive back on.

I emailed Gigabyte, and they blamed the drive had problems.
I emailed Western Digital, and they blamed Promise controller.
I emailed Promise, and they offer no support for built-in controllers.

There is definitely issues with WinXP and Promise, which I hope are fixed soon....by SOMEONE!
