Promise Fasttrak 100 Mod Problems! Card seems to think IRQ 0 was created just for its sorry butt....

I give up. I just can't get it going. Here's a breakdown of what's happened:

- Card first acted like it wasn't there at all. Once it said it was a VGA card. Removed card from slot and cleaned some goop from slot connector with alcohol. I then saw the Fasttrak BIOS screen. Windows ME detected the card, and prompted for drivers. Installed drivers. Rebooted. "Windows Protection Error". After another reboot, card is automatically disabled by OS because it caused a boot failure. (Automatic Skip Driver Agent)

- Installed Win 98 FE and SE. Same results. Noticed in Safe Mode that card wants IRQ 0. Tried to force to IRQ 10 (which the PC's BIOS sees it at). Windows Protection Error. Flashed BIOS again on card using /Unlimit switch and utility provided at this site. No good.

- Installed Win2k. Saw card as RAID card with exclamation point. Installed driver. Reboot. BSOD before boot:
"* STOP: 0x000000D1
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
fasttrak.sys

Keep in mind that there are NO other PCI cards in the system when I try this, just a Voodoo 5 AGP. Seems like a hardware problem. All the connections look flawless. The mod was done by a trusted veteran, because I can't solder for diddly.Help!

When I moded the Promise ATA 66 card I think I remember flashing the Bios prior to moding the card. I also flashed an older Bios because the lastest one wouldn't work. Then I flashed the lastest Bios after I got the card running. I don't know if this helps. You might want to check.

I made sure to use the one listed on the Geocities RAID mod site that works for sure with my card. Good idea though.

If you wanted the FastTrack 100 RAID card....you should have bought the thing. You mod your friggin Ultra100 card and expect everything to go smoothly? The mod probably wasn't done right, or you didn't flash the BIOS correctly or something...so don't expect it to work right.

And I suppose your pessimistic ass has never overclocked a CPU? I wish I could afford a real RAID card, you insensitive prick. :|

I asked for technical help, not a sermon.

I agree Cknyc, if you don't have anything to contribute to the thread, don't post.

Anyway, Bryan, more than likely the mod was not done correctly, or some of the soldering of a connection bled over onto another, and now the signals are getting crossed up. Your best bet is to let the person that modded it take a peek at it (if possible). If not, try forcing it to use a specific IRQ using the motherboard BIOS (assign an IRQ to the slot in which you put the RAID card). Also, make sure the card is not sharing an IRQ with something built into the motherboard, something like the USB etc.

Good luck!
