promise controler VS plain IDE

i have a asus a7v133
a burner on ide 1
an ata 100 hardrive at promise controler 1

now this 16 x dvd drive....

when i have it on my ide 2 slot, this is what happens...
ill be playin a dvd and the dvd keeps skipping with audio pops and video lag
when i play mp3s from a cd on the dvd drive, the music lags.
and yes, DMA mode is on

all these problems go away when i plug in the promise controler 2
but i heard that there are reasons not to plug it in there.
one thing i noticed is longer boot time.

so is there any reason i shouldnt switch back to the promise contoler for the DVD drive

What reasons.. It's fine there.

Because it is scanning for the drive and initializing it.

If you have no problems, then no, no reason not to.
