Promise and Windows XP Shutdown problem **help**

Linux23

Lifer
this is a weird problem that's been buggin me for some time now.

when i go to shutdown XP the 2 hard drives i have attached to the card spins down, and spins back up and then down and up about 4 times before it reboots or shuts down.

works fine in Win2K, however 98 has the same problem.

**I have the Promose Ultra 66 card from about 2 years ago**

Also Linux Mandrake 8.1 does not install unless i unplug my Quantum from the Promise card. the Western Digital card i have hooked up works fine, but when the Quantum is by itself, it freezes up on the Linux installation.

**Note I had an Intel BX board and now a SiS 735 based board now, and same problem, so i already ruled out AMD based boards being the culprit.**

I don't think XP lives very well with "older" controller cards...........thought I heard that they had to be "Tx2's" or something.......I don't use one in any of my systems anymore, but, thought I'd try to help!🙂

<< Try flashing the firmware on your Promise66 card to the latest version... >>

already tried the firmware flash to the latest BIOS. it's really weird, it feels like the system is about to shutdown but it doesn't and it comes back up, and goes back down in a loop.

It's a rare thing for my computer to restart or shut down under WinXP with my onboard Promise controller...worked beautifully under Win2k, Win98SE, WinMe.....
