Promedia 2.1 - static when PC is on

I have my PS3 and PC connected to a Klipsch Promedia 2.1 set. The PS3 is connected to my monitor through HDMI, then a stereo plug from the monitor's audio out to the speaker aux in. The pc is connected using the main cable.

If I turn the volume past 10% while using the PS3 there will be a really loud squelching and lots of static. When I switch back to the PC source, it goes away. It also goes away if I use the main cable on the PS3.

However, I found out recently that turning off the PC alleviates all the static when using the PS3 and aux in. I have all the cords and cables away from power cords, surge protectors and anything else that may interfere. Any idea what else it could be? I've had the Klipsch for less than 6 months and don't use them that much.

Edit: A somewhat related question:

My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster B2430. When in PC mode, in the information menu it lists the resolution as just 1920x1080. In AV mode, it says 1920x1080P. Am I missing something or does it not matter? The PS3 also looks much better, at least to my eyes, in AV mode as it's pretty washed out if in PC mode.

It sounds like there is a lot of interference from your inputs on the promedia, not much you can do about it if it's not shielded well internally. Most likely your computer is ouputting electrical junk over the audio wire (hard drives, power supplies, etc. all output a lot of noise) and it's unable to separate it when it's plugged in.
