prom time. what kind of tux should i get?

im thinking a black tux with white inside.

Whatever you do, get a vest, not a cummberbund.

I have a vest that buttons high and has a satin collar. I must say that it looks very sharp compared to the low-buttoned collarless vests you usually get from rental joints.

I prefer a black tie/vest to white.

Don't wear a white tux unless you have dark skin 🙂

I think the first line had nothing to do with the rest of the post, and you're just trying to pretend you know something about fashion, nevermind that black on white is standard attire for formal events. Goodness, you proclaim your choice as if it were some profound thought or something. 😛

Black with white is good, although you could have some fun with the vest (Like Jzero said, get vest not bun), and make sure to go a little early to rent the tux, because likely enough many others from your high school will go to the same place and the "many" different styles of jackets/pants that they have in your size will become much smaller.

Oh yes, I like a nice 3 button Jacket if you were looking for that kind of suggestion also.

If she's wearing pink, definitely don't try to match her. Get a normal black tux with a black vest. Don't get anything too flashy, it'll look tacky. And don't break the bank, it's not worth it. Prom is one of the least significant events in your life. 🙂

thats why i said im not gonna try to match her...

last year i had a red vest for jr prom... cuz my date just had a black and white dress..and i got her a red rose. crosage (spelling?)

anyway.. i just got a full black tux ^_^

Make sure you get a full vest, one with a fabric in the back. The ones that are open backed look funny when you don't have you jacket on to dance.

Don't do a white tux. Only .000001% of the world looks good in them.


Get a full vest. The ones that just attach in the back look stupid. Get a black coat, pants and black patterned vest. Ask to try on both a bowtie and a regular tie and see which you think looks best, although the regular tie is usually the better.

All in all, you'll want to get a rental from a place that has people that know what they are talking about... Mall stores like Skeffingtons might not always be the best. I've had good experience with Men's Warehouse, if you have one of those near you.

If your girl has her dress already, take her to a craft shop and get some ribbon that matches her dress, various widths and stuff, and when you go to order your corsages, give it to them to add in. That's all the more color matching you need.
