proliferation of designer clothes and accessories

Is it just me or are expensive brand clothes, purses, watches, etc. becoming more common? When i was little this didn't seem to be so common but now it's everywhere.

I'd rather buy slighly more expensive clothing of a better quality then cheap low quality clothing.
