I have a problem with my a P3V4X MB and PIII600EB CPU. Here whats happening:

Even if I use Micron 128MB RAM PC133 Memory I can get my system to run at 600MHZ using a 133MHZ FSB. The only speed I can use is 450MHZ (100MHZ FSB...I have to underclock it to make it work!). I tried with other memory PC133 with no more success. The memory is CAS-3 and in the BIOS settings I tried to configure it by spd and manually with no luck. When I try the system at 600MHZ I can boot in W2K or 98SE (the 2 OS I use) but after 1 or 2 minutes the system hang. I tried various solutions with no more luck. Can the CPU be the problem?

Can someone help me please?

The motherboard was working perfectly with my previous CPU. Thats why I think it can be someting with the CPU and not the MB.

What is the best way to know if this is a proble with the CPU?

You can downclock your memory by using the mem/system divider setting in the BIOS. This will allow you to run the memory at 100MHz and the CPU at 133MHz FSB and visa-versa. You can swap one with the other and you should be able to tell which one is causing the problem at 133MHz.

In fact, I'm wondering if you aren't trying to run your memory at 166MHz by having this set to something other than 1/1. Then when you underclock down to 450MHz, you are running the memory at 133MHz and all is running fine. It's a possibility, anyway.

I did try that already. I am running it at 1 to 1 or auto. When I use an FSB of 100MHZ everything is fine. The memory is fine too. It is running at 133MHZ in another system I have. Anyway I will doublecheck this tonight.

Thanks

I use BIOS version 1005. I think 1006 is in Beta and I want to wait before using it.

Thanks

Doesnt sound too good.
