Projects for ATI HD5670

As some of you probably know, part of my enjoyment in distributed computing comes from getting as many points as possible in as many different projects as possible. I just passed 1 million (or better) in DNETC@HOME, Collatz Conjecture, and MooWrapper with my ATI HD5670.

This is the first graphics card I've owned that is capable of doing any BOINC processing so all of my previous DC work has been purely with CPUs. The single card is FAR outdoing all 20+ computers that I have running other projects, so naturally I want to make as much use of it as I can. Are there any projects that can use ATI cards other than the three projects that I listed? I know that MilkyWay can, but it requires cards with double-precision and my card doesn't have that.

If there aren't any others, then I'll just keep pushing those three projects higher, but I'd like to add to this silliness if possible.. ;)

I don't believe there are any other projects than those you listed that accept single precision ATI cards. Might as well run the numbers up on those projects! :)

Impressive stats Fardringle! :)

5670? That does OpenCL, does it not? See the project in my sig. :sneaky:

Edit: I should mention ATI doesn't do nearly as well as nVIDIA at this point, but it does work.

I told PrimeGrid to only give me Proth Prime Search tasks and to only use the ATI GPU. I'll wait and see if it gives me any work..

Ensure you have the OpenCL drivers too.

I used PrimeGrid and Collatz and I found that Collatz gives slightly more credits per time and doesn't use as much CPU. PrimeGrid used 0.6 CPU while Collatz was more like 0.05. This can mean something if you also use your CPU for other projects such as the Prime LLR challenge coming up =)

I do have the newest drivers and my first Primegrid GPU task is running right now. :)

I also ran Collatz long enough to get 1 million credits, but it's my last choice to continue running out of the possible ATI GPU projects. Whenever there is a Collatz task running, the computer becomes almost completely unusable no matter what else is happening. It's extremely painful to do the simplest tasks. Even scrolling up and down in a web browser is unbearably slow. DNETC and MooWrapper have some small but noticeable effect on computer usage (particularly games) when they are running, but it's not enough to be a problem in most cases. It seems to me that Collatz isn't running as a lowest priority process on the GPU so it doesn't back off when other processes want to use the GPU.

It looks like PrimeGrid does the same thing as Collatz, but I'll just tell it not to run whiel the computer is in use. I'll let it get to 1 million credits in the project, then switch back to one of the projects that doesn't interfere with regular computer usage.

After about 20 hours of processing so far, it looks like this ATI card will score around 35K points per day if I don't interrupt it too often. Not quite as much as some of the other projects (it has been averaging 43K per day in DNETC), but still almost double what all 20+ CPU-only machines scored when I had them running PrimeGrid together. Not too shabby. ;)
