I know many people don't have places where you can go test out projectors so how have you tested out the one you wanted before buying it to make sure you wanted it ?

Check projector central, and decide on the projector you want to look at. I would then suggest looking up home hteater stores in your area and see if they carry it.

Do you all think its right to buy the a projector with a credit card locally, to test it out and see if you like it before buying it online, if you do buy it online then return the projector you bought locally? Especially if you have no place to test out projectors before buying them?

Well I already told you that I don't agree with that.

I think you should have researched more about the DV10 and tried to find some method of seeing it or a similar 480p DLP before you went out and bought it.

I was curious what others thought. I did. It was the only projector sold, at this time, that has this kind of short throw distance rate that is DLP.

All others are LCD :(

I'm not really sure what you have against LCD, I went from a DLP to an LCD. Both have pros and cons.

I guess at this point I would personally just stick with what I had purchased. In some HT related areas companies cater to this kind of "try it at home" testing and want people to have the chance to demo products after purchasing and offer trial periods for testing. Something like a projector though bought from a retail store isn't that kind of situation though.

I have an LCD as well, I love it, and have no regrets buying it. The only way I would go DLP is if I got a 3chip DLP. (cause I'm cheap)

I really wouldn't go with the DV10 Unless you really think you're going to use the built in DVD player. You can get a 720P projector for around that price point.

I returned my Infocus 4805 to costco with their lifetime satisfaction guarantee since it started having major fan scraping / color wheel sound issues. I got store credit and bought my AE900U through them.

Not exactly the same thing since there was something actually wrong with the unit I was returning. "Not wanting it anymore" isn't the kind of excuse I think flies with retail stores. Each is going to have a different policy though. You should look up online (or call) to see what their return policy is. If they have a period of "no questions asked" or some similar return policy, then by all means go for it. They might have a pricematch policy if you're just interested in matching the Visual Apex deal. Figure out what their policies are.

Problem with the OP's situation is his throw distance being less than 9 feet.

I have nothing against LCDs but I was told you can see the screen door effect a lot easier. Isn't this true when you sit closer to LCD projectors?

How big of a screen are you going to have? The HD70 has a 78" diagonal at 9 feet.

Very hard to do. Read a bunch then jump in. Get one with HDMI for sure and 1080i WS etc. I own the Panasonic PT-AE900U and love it. Paid about $1300 after rebate. You can get one a lot cheaper but of course will be cheaper... You can also get one a lot more expensive but really the more you pay the less difference you will see for the bucks. For under $2000 you can buy a very good projector these days but you can go a lot cheaper and still be impressed especially if you have never had one. I know my first projector the infocus X1 impressed me a lot till it expired.

Well isn't their no point of having a projector if you can't get at least very close to a 100" inch screen ?

I can get about a 88 to 91" screen right now from about 8 to 8.5 feet away with a DV10. Does any other DLP does that which is not a arm and a leg?
