Projectors

I have a problem my maximum throw distance I can get in my theater room, its not very big I know, is around 9 feet. It would only be 8 feet the other way and would be better but if I have to take the 9 feet route I will.

Is it worth buying a DLP projector instead of a LCD even if I only get anywhere from only a 60 to 70 inch screen with most DLP projectors I can get?

If I get a 3LCD projector there is only two that I can get that will deliver very close to a 100 inch screen at 8 or 9 feet. They are the Epson Powerlite 10 and Epson Powerlite 20 but they are 3LCD projectors.

Using the 9 feet route I can sit about 8 to 9 feet back from the screen. Using the 8 feet route about 5 to 6 feet from the screen I can sit back. I may need to sit close anywhere to read the English subtitles on a lot of foreign movies I watch. My eyes are horrible when it comes to reading text from a long distance. I am near sided.

The problem is will I beable to see the screen door effect on either of these 3LCD projectors ?

I'd still go DLP...actually, in this case I'd be inclined to say it would be better to have DLP, as they have less screen door. Just shop for a projector with a short throw distance-they make em. They also make zoom lenses, but any type of add on lens to a projector is going to be costly.

This one will give you a larger screen since it's a short throw DLP

I don't know of any 720p DLP ones that are short throw and affordable.

How much are you thinking about spending?

DLPs have SDE too. From my own experience, SDE is going to be visible at 9' 100" 480p from a DLP.

If you're looking at LCD projectors, some (like my own AE900U) have some overlapping of the pixles that greatly reduce SDE. I see less of it on my current 3LCD vs my old DLP.

There are no DLP projectors that I can find with a really good short throw distance. All of them suck compared to 3LCD throw distance.

I wouldn't mind getting the inFocus Big Play IN72 but it will only give me around 52 to 62 inch screen at 8 to 9 feet away. Is that really worth it? Thats a pretty small screen for a home theater.

Thanks. Is there any without the dvd player in the same model and brand? Don't need it.

Depends- match it up against a TV you would buy instead. I bet it's still a lot cheaper 🙂 But then you do also have to worry about stuff like furniture positioning and lighting.

Screen size is all about how far away you're going to be sitting.

at 9', I'd want about 80"-90" for the screen size based on my preferences

There is the Optoma H31 which is fairly equivalent in specs, but it's not short throw. I realize you probably don't need the DVD player, but that's pretty much the only rather popular short throw DLP I know about.

There may be more though, I haven't kept up with recent models in that category. There's a huge database of projectors on that site to look at.

Thanks. I been looking at that datebase for about a week now. Tried to find as many short throw DLP as possible but its almost impossible.

The search sucks as well because you can't put in a field for special. Usually the DLP or LCD projectors that have short throw list in the special field of the projector short lens or short throw.

It makes no sense why Optoma made this their only short lens DLP projector ?

Well it was designed to be an easy to use tabletop projector.

You don't have to use the DVD player in it if you don't want to. I don't think you can ceiling mount it either if that's what you were planning.

$799 with lamp warranty and 92" screen doesn't sound like too bad of a deal for what you need in that room.

Wow not bad!

This may sound like a stupid or strange question but can you pay with two credit cards anywhere or anyhow online ? I never seen any online stores where you could. It seems like two good of a deal to pass up with the 2 year lamp warranty!

Screen is still included in the $599 AR price from Buy.com FYI (both places offer is as part of the rebate deal)

Yes.

No

I looked to see on their website and they don't say anything about it or have a option in the checkout. I guess most places you have to contact them to see.
