Projector Resolution Question

I bought an Optoma HD70 years ago. It's a 720p projector that I've used primarily to watch movies from my PC hooked up using a DVI to HDMI adapter. It looks amazing on my wall in my small apartment.

When I switch over to the projector I keep the resolution that I use on my PC (1920x1200), started up the movie file or disc and watched.

Is this the way I should be doing it? Or when I switch to the projector should I be running it at 1280x720, the native resolution? Considering that BR's are 1920x1080, will I be missing anything? I've tried it both ways and it looks pretty much the same to me (although when I see my PC desktop 1920 isn't as sharp/clear).

Just curious. Thanks

I have an optoma HD72 with a PC hooked up to it. Its native is higher than 1280x720 (it's a 16:10 projector), but with my PC I use 1280x720 and had to use my video settings (video card) to adjust the image to fill my screen.

I mainly just use it to watch HDTV and DVD rips through Windows Media Center and my dedicated Blu-ray player for other movies.

Actually setting the video card at 720p with a 720p projector "should" look better than having the projector take the 1080p signal and downconvert it 720p. You want the fewest conversions possible and the best converter doing the conversion.

HDTV looks great on my projectors. Mine is 4 years old with about 1200 hours on the original bulb. Love this projector and brand. (So much, my brother and cousin both own Optoma's, too)

Good to know. So if I watch a Blu ray file I ripped and play it in MPC, it will just automatically do the proper aspect ratio and proportions right?

And yes, Optoma projectors kick ass. I love mine.
