Projector recommendation less than 500

Trying to help a friend of mine. He is looking to put a projector is his room. It's going to be used mainly for movies, streaming and light ps3 gaming. He wants it ceiling mounted. What would you guys recommend for under 500?

Thanks

if he's going to be gaming on it, i'd do a little research on the input lag of the ones you are looking at. input lag played a major factor in my decision of what one to get, because i do a lot of console gaming and play a decent amount of fighters.

i think that most projectors can be mounted as well. most have holes in them that will work with universal mounts that can adjust.

You could keep an eye craigslist.

I just sold the following:
HD20 projector with ~2200 hours on bulb, ceiling mount, and 110" screen for $750
.... I sold the projector and ceiling mount for $450, screen for $300

For gaming, this is one of the best. ($750) http://www.amazon.com/electronics/dp/B00556F900

If you can find one used, you'd be in about the right price range at around $500. I have a BenQ W1070 projected on a 110" screen. I play from about 10' away and it's epic. For a 720p PJ, you'll want to sit a bit further away from the same screen size.

I would HIGHLY suggest doing your homework on what it takes to successfully do a PJ. If your room dimensions aren't right, you'll end up with pretty serious buyer's remorse. Things to consider: what's your throw distance (pj from screen)? what are you projecting on to? are you table mounting or ceiling mounting? do you have the light control to make a particular work? My 2000 lumen pj is barely enough to use in the daytime with all the blinds close and no south-facing windows in the room...
