Projector people: I'm looking for a good all purpose HT projector

I'm gettin kinda frustrated, doesn't seem to be a good objective website, I haven't found one I like yet.

From researching @ projectorcentral, I've found these:

Mitsubishi HC3 ColorView
Sanyo PLV-Z3
BenQ PB6100
InFocus ScreenPlay 4805
Panasonic PT-AE700U (probably out of price range

Whatever one I'm going to get should be HDTV compatible, and have component, and DVI or VGA inputs

I'd like to be able to do gaming (xbox HD or Comp DVI) as well as movies and tv.

I think that bightness will be a factor as well, as the room I'll be using it in will be relatively bright during the day (althouh it can be made pretty dark if neccicary)

I'm just kinda confused, any links/personal expirences are much appreciated

Well I have heard good things abou the InFocus 4805, and it has what you need. Go ahead and cross the Benq off (no DVI). The Panasonic or Sanyo would be the better choices, but both are at least $400 above your price range.

I recently bought an infocus SP4805 during the recent costco deal. The picture quality is good and movies look great on it. It's also very easy to use. However, after reading much of this thread I wanted to give the optoma h31 a try. The contrast ratio is 3000:1 compared to the 4805's 2000:1 and outputs 100 more lumens (850 as opposed to 750). That is all marketing ratings though. I really like the picture on the optoma much more than the 4805 though. Colors are more vivid, the picture is brighter and the contrast ratio shows more details. There are also a lot of zoom options that improve visible display area. The 4805 is going back to costco next week. Also, for a projector like this, you may want to get blinds or cover your windows with blackout cloth during the day.
