I've heard something about the nintendo causing image burn if it stays on the same frame to long. An example would be putting a game on pause if you have to go answer the phone or something.

Whether or not this is true, I don't know.

Would this be a Nintendo 64 or a Nintendo Entertainment System?

The problem with consoles is they usually have stationary things on the screen that are there the entire time. There would be a risk of something like your lives or coins or something burning into the screen. Newer projection TV's are FAR less prone to this than older ones.

However, many games these days dont have anything stationary on the screen at all. So if you meant a N64, you should be perfectly fine. NES games however, watch out.

(the pause thing is the most common used example because it was usually big in the middle of the screen, and white. If you need to leave the screen on for a long time just turn the TV off)

i mainly just play N64, and the new Game Cube when it comes out. Im sure the new HDTVs are made so Nintendo systmes wont burn in as easily..

actually, screens (and projectors) have gotten much better since the old days... i'm not saying burning is still impossible, i am saying it's less likely to occur.

with respect to modern CRTs for computers, the problem is almost gone... though i am not saying burning is impossible, i am saying that the coined program "screen savers" are obsolete, and only hide screen contents today, not prevent burning of images to the screen which was a problem a long time ago.

Projection TVs (esp. older ones) were much more likely to have an image burned in than standard TVs. That's why early videogame manufacturer's put warning labels. It used to be that nearly half the screen was a static image. My how things change :)

Some games might be ok, but others such as side scrollers or fighters would be bad since they have the score in the same spot all the time.

It's not just video games. Channels that put those f#$*$*% "Bugs" in the corner of the screen to let morons know what channel they're watching (the semi transparent logo) can burn in a TV as well.
