Projection TV without a screen protector?

Hey all -

I'm thinking of getting this TV:

Hitachi 65" CRT Projection HDTV

...but it doesn't have a screen protector.

What are the implications of that? I know that it's more fragile, but the manual doesn't go into much detail other than be gentle with it.

I have two kids > 6 and a dog. It's not likely, but I suppose the dogs nose or tail may bump it now and again. As for the kids - on my current TV, I've seen finger smudges now and again when cleaning it.

Without a protector, how gentle do you have to be? What bad things can happen to it & how easily can they happen?

I'd rather not have the protector since I get a pretty good glare with the one I have now...
