People keep saying "years" when talking about LCD or DLP bulbs. It's number of hours of use. For people who only use it for watching movies, that could be a long time.
But I heard that the bulb isn't as expensive as others.,.
But I read, take my Olevia 32" for instance, the bulb is rated at 50,000 hours. A dlp, lcd projector is 2000-5000 hours and costs $300-$700 per bulb. I hugs my 32 lcd monitor for that.
But if you take a rear projection tv the DLP and LCD bulbs are the same but if you buy a decent crt rear projection HD you will get a better picture then both and should last anywhere from 4-20 years before a tube will burn out. Or longer as in the case of my RCA 55" that is around 25 years old and still going strong.
If you get that long you got your money worth because the intial cost of a crt hd projection is lower (my 65" Toshiba was $1100), you dont have to change a bulb ever between that time and can have it run 24/7 without ever having to turn it on and worry that your putting time on a bulb your going to have to replace. I was tossed up when picking out my tv and it came down to it I didnt want to limit my tv viewing to only movies because I didnt want to put many hours on it watching regular tv. Why pay for something you cannot use when ever you feel like it and have to worry about bulb life. Granted when you first get it you'd be like, "Hell I got 3000 hours I can watch it all". Then when your hitting 2500 hours you will be nit picking what your going to watch and for how long for fear your about to have to shell out $300-$700 for a lousy bulb. At that point to me that is not enjoying your purchase.
I went with the CRT and got the 4 year extended service. If the CRT tube doesnt go out in that time right before my contract is up I will get it checked out and make sure the coolant isnt leaking out OR slip the tech a bill or 2 and change them because "they" were leaking
😉
But after that with a crt, you keep it clean, open it up every now and then and dust it out, clean the mirror and tubes, and shes good to go for ever almost. And when it does die there will be new technology so no need getting it fixed.
IMO DLP and LCD is the way the manufactures want to go for they can make more money off you by selling you bulbs all the time. Buy one that takes a $700 bulb each time and 2-3 changes and you could of bought a new tv. Unless your one of thoes who buys a huge tv just to look at it and have bragging rights, watch it once or twice a month then why even bother buying a big tv
😛
