hey there.. I attend high school, and have a project for one course that I need some help with.
this course, is Cisco networking. in case you didn't know, Cisco is one of the major networking companies.
my dilemna is this: I don't know LAN router/switch model numbers, and some of the features that they have.
I know pretty much what I want, but the question for me is seperating all this crappy home networking equipment from the real stuff, made for large LAN's like campuses.
and I need some info on their features, like rack mounting etc. I suspect the rack mounting feature means that the device (router, hub, switch, whatever) is mounted on a wiring rack, at an MDF, or IDF (main distribution facility, or Intermediate Distribution Facility).
this project involves me and 4 other people to find the best way to wire a campus, and there are 2 other groups that we compete with. we do a presentation at the end of the year, as if we really WERE doing this.
I need to know my options correctly, before I can make any intelligent decisions. I know that if I CAN understand these options, I'll have a leg up, because in my class, there is probably about 2 or so other people who can do this.
any help would be appreciated!
