Project finally done (pics)

Some of you may remember the thread where I attempted to make a jukebox/LED sign out of an old computer. Well I finally got it running.

Features:
LED scrolling sign displaying the name of the song
S-Video capable plugged into TV as a monitor
Pulls music from different box on network and plays it
Completely programmable down to colour patterns
Built into home-made bar
Space for fish tank in framed area
Bar counters covered in clear plastic casting resin for glassy smooth finish

It's kind of hard to see the sign because it does scroll, so bear in mind the pics of that are kind of blurry.

Some changes:

Ditched freebsd in favour of Debian Linux
Chose KDE (easy for non-computer savvy roommates to use when I'm gone) instead of Fluxbox

Here are the pics.

EDIT: faster sorry

Take some more pictures, write a semi detalied description, submit to Slashdot next Saturday night. I guarantee you will be published, because you are running Linux.

any available plans anywhere?

I might type them up, I just got like a ton of requests for it. It's really not that hard, I just came up with an idea, found someone else's attempt at making it work, fixed their code a bit, and went at it. It was really kind of a hit or miss thing whether it would actually work or not, but it is great. Needless to say I learned a lot about perl in a very short amount of time, and I am actually learning it from scratch now, just so I can make more cool stuff like this.

nice, i hope the display is a little easier to read in person.

It definetly it, it's crystal clear. It's just that it scrolls too fast to capture an accurate picture. I took a video of it too, but I didn't think anyone would really care to see it.
