Project Case for a VFD

I want to make a good case to protect it and have it look nice at the same time (My last 5 displays I fried do to not having them in a case)
The VFD Module is a Noritake CU-20045SCPB-U2J (HD44780 Compatible)

and the USB Module is a LCDModKit BPU204A-1

So I was thinking of buying a plexi box or just a project box from Radio$hack
But I also have a wring question
The USB Module will not support a VFD Due to the high current draw can I just power the VFD off of a molex connector? Will it work that way? Or should I use another USB port for power?
Thanks
