I'm thinking of getting a 350Z salvage car for as a project car. How long do you guys think this will take to repair?

A new bumper, trunk hatch, side skirts, and lights is around $2K, hatch glass shouldn't be much more than $400~$500, and paint. My estimate is that it will cost between $3~$4K on parts, and I will have a fun car. Custom leather upholstery shouldn't cost much more than $1500 if that is the route I want to take.

PS. Do you guys think that the frame is damage?

If you have time that seems a good start, much better than some $3k heap you find from a guy who's wife told him to finally get rid of his 66 mustang, for example.

check out that rear fender on the drivers side, its all messed up. check the gaps around the doors, if they are out then the car is junk and you do not want.

Can you do body work? If you're paying to have it done, I can almost guarantee that it'll cost more than you expect (to have it done right).

$11k for that??? That seems a lot of money for that car with all that damage even if it does only have 18k miles.

That car is twisted to hell and back. Look at the rear quarter panels in front of the back wheels, those huge dents indicate a bent car.

See how far the hatch appears to have been pushed in, the rusted part? The whole rear bumper, the "real" bumper which is under the bumper cover was pushed in that far as well. If the bumper was in that far, so was all the rear floor of the car.

See how the rear wheels fit real oddly into the openings, and the whole rear of the car appears to be slightly lifted? More indications that the car is twisted and bent.

That car is totaled for a good reason, it probably needs 5-7 thousand dollars worth of time on a frame machine to even be close to straight.

I'm not a pro, but I can do the body work and I have most of the tools including welders (with access to sheet metal cutting/forming/lathe/milling machines). The only thing that I don't have is a powerful 5 HP or greater compressor.

There is some unanticipated things that I haven't considered that may throw out the plan. Importing cars/salvage vehicles/parts/taxes into Canada is an other process to it self that could add as much as $5K~6K to the overall costs as some of my buddies pointed out.

Maybe I'll get a friend to buy it, then re-sell or send it to me as a gift to avoid the paper works and costs.

Yup I'd bet money the frame is tweaked on it. You'd really need to see a car like that in person before purchasing IMO, because evening knowing it tweaked, you still don't know how bad. Unless your a body guy that can do side jobs in the shop it's not worth it.
