My car insurance company (progressve) sent me an email today saying if i participate in their research study for their new tripsense device, they will give me $50. They say it will not affect my rates or policy or be used against me (unless the cops want it or another insurance agency demands it).

$50 would be nice for doing nothing, but I'm cautious of putting a "big brother" device in my car. I don't drive too agressive, but I'm not a granny either.

What do you think?

That way it can record things like throttle position, engine RPM, speed, etc. They can basically see and record everything the ECU sees.

Uh huh... Yeah, right. I get a $50 discount for plugging that thing into my car, and then my insurance "mysteriously" doubles the first time I hit 95 to pass some car who decides to "race" me in the slow lane. No thanks.

Not only is this a shiity deal, but THAT above is a humdinger of a loophole.
