For the lazy:

Auto insurer Progressive Corp. (NYSE: PGR) has announced what it's calling "the first-ever insurance policy" for owners of Segway motorized scooters.

Progressive said owners of the Segway Human Transporter have a choice of three insurance packages: full coverage; liability only; or liability and comprehensive.

"This is a story about two innovative companies coming together to meet consumers' needs," said Ben Sheridan, general manager, Progressive.

Wow, took the bloodsuckers (aka Insurance Companies) this long. I figured they'd offer insurance before they even invented the Segway...

I can see the claims flooding in.. "I fell down the stairs while attempting to operate the Segway vehicle up the stairs.."

Liability. LOL. I'd love to see how much damage somebody on one of those could do !

I didnt think wrecking the house from the attic was possible, but by god, I sure as hell found a way!

Well, let's see.............I step out of a store's front door onto the sidewalk only to get mowed down by a Segway rider doing 15mph. I break a hip, shoulder, concussion. Medical bills, after ER visit, surgery, etc. mount. Now, I'm 48yo male who exercises regualrly, so fairly fit........think about your 75yo grandmother getting hit by one of those and she has early osteoporosis.

I think there could be a lot of damage one could do riding a Segway.......maybe not to a building or such, but to a human......the potential is huge.

Theres a great story on the Segway in the current issue of WIRED. Only read some of it, but it details why the Segway is sort of a failure.

Great article!!! That thing will never sell. I wouldn't pay $1000 for it, let alone $5000.

Yep...........too fast for sidewalks and too slow for city streets. This is why some municipalities are or are contemplating banning Segways from sidewalks.
