i was just watching the news and it said they have only found 233 out of over 5,000 bodies missing., exactly what progress are they making at the wtc? its been more than a week since the attacks so why have they only uncovered 233 bodies? i thought they would have found everybody by now, with all those people working there. maybe they need more help, i dont know

There's 1.5 BILLION+ pounds of rubble, not to mention the weight of all the office equipment and such, occupying the space that was taken by the WTC. I'd imagine just moving that much stuff would take awhile, no less trying to move it while not killing anyone who may still be alive.

Those buildings took 7 years I think to put up. Weighing over 100,000 tonnes. It's a daunting task. Another thing to consider is that In someplaces they aren't even finding concrete....

Something to think about, the human body is no match for the sheer volume of steel, glass, and concrete that comprised the WTC. Bodies beneath the rubble probably are crushed, ground, and smeared beyond recognition. Not to mention the amount of rubble they have to pick through.

This is NOT an easy task, it's going to take a while.

you have to realize that some ppl will never be found. EVER. =(

and there are body parts everywhere, so parts NOT identified are not considered "found"

coocoo, it's not 233 out of the over 5000 missing, it's some 233 IDENTIFIED, and some 5200+ STILL MISSING!

it's gonna take a while to take out all the debris. I am hoping there is still someone who can survive even though it's been days......

<< estimated, in your opinion, how long will it take for them to finish? >>

Consider this: Over 425,000 cubic yards of concrete used to build the WTC is enough to build a 5 foot wide sidewalk from New York CIty to Washinton, DC. Those two buildings housed over 9.5 million square feet of office space, roughly 1 acre per floor. Plus office equipment, HVAC, Piping, Wiring...etc. and the slurry wall. So ask you instead what do you think?

They moved out 12 Million Tons of rubble last week. It may take months before that place is cleared out.

The firefighters, policemen, volunteers working there deserves a lot of respect. They're working 24 hours a day, knowing that many of their fellow peers are trapped in there.

The smell there must be awful by now. I wonder how they're controlling disease? We didn't start the tradition of burying our dead for ascetics, ya know.

They are giving the workers special capsules and vapor rub to put under their noses to mask the smell.

"The body parts are coming in 400 a day now, and the medical examiner's office is bracing for 1 million in all.
Agonized loved ones can hardly bear the wait, but it could take weeks or even a year to identify everyone killed by the twin suicide attacks on the World Trade Center. "
