hi,

talking especially about the us economy/market...maybe i am naive..but i'd like your input here...tell me what you think...

Program to boost the us economy and get people jobs
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Are there any government (state/federal) programs active to financially aide companies for newly hiring full time employees ?
Eg....if a company would get (example) 50% back of the cost of one full time employee ? In addition, there could also be tax relief for companies newly hiring.

This would also include 'converting' many current temporary workers (without benefits and health insurance) into full time real employees.

Benefits:

The companies might consider to hire people because of their lower costs and the tax relief they get.
MANY people get real jobs with health insurance/benefits.

People have more money and dont get deeper in depth because of costs for health insurance etc.
Medicaid is a BIG problem right now - the us considers the current Medicaid program will soon not work any longer, because there are just too much
people getting laid off, working w/o insurance.....where is the solution ?

How can you boost the economy if NOT by giving people real jobs ???? And this starts of course with the companies !

The cost of this program (the aid the state would give the companies) IN MY OPINION is nothing in comparison to the long term benefits giving more people jobs (ie. boost of economy, people have more money to spend etc.)...and (especially) relieving the costs of current programs like Medicaid/Welfare/Unemployment etc...

---
This is all so obvious IMHO i am quite sure that such programs are already going on (???)

greets

I personally think the best way to boost the economy is to move to a sales tax, as it would greatly increase the taxes paid by corporations (and thus increase govt revenue) who hire dozens of lawyers to evade tax laws.

Do you have any idea how much this would cost the government? Taxes would skyrocket, wages would drop, demand for products would drop, and then demand for labor would drop. The government would effectively be paying lots of money to cause people to be laid off in the long run. Sure it looks great in the short run, but in the long run the costs are astronomical and the tax rates would become insane.

Besides, as I've said in this thread, the actual economy is not that bad. The stock market is correcting after a massive bubble, but it is still significantly above where it "should" be based on the regression line calculated from the historical data. And unemployment isn't much at all above frictional unemployment.

The best way for the government to improve the economy is to spend money on public works projects. Employ the public. That's how the US came out of the Great Depression.

the govt doesn't need to start any new programs to boost the economy, the people/corps can do it themselves
give capitalism a chance

That's why after almost 10 years of WPA, we still weren't making progress until WWII forced the economy back into shape. WWII saved our collective butts as far as the Great Depression is concerned. The WPA kept things from getting worse and it did help improve things a little, but it's the war that really brought us out.

My history prof in college said the WPA stood for "we piddle around"
