Programs closing themselves, even regedit, etc; Virus?

Works, Office and IE work fine, but I cant even get AVG to run more than 3-4 seconds then it closes, same with regedit.

Is this a virus or what? I am using XP pro. I cant even uninstall or reinstall AVG because it shuts that down as well.

What do I need to do?

BTW: Stinger from McAfee does not find anything.

Two simple things that you can do:

1. Start in Safe Mode (F8 just before Windows loads) and run AVG from there. That should stop anything in your startup loading, and it's worth a try.

2. RAV Antivirus or Trend Micro's Housecall - two online scanners that may run if AVG doesn't.

Failing that, it's probably a good idea to get the hard disk into another machine and scan it from there.
