Program to track broadband availability?

Is there a free program available to keep track of when a broadband connection is up or down?

A friend of mine has been having problems with his cable modem service being intermittently down, and was hoping there is some <edit> automatic </edit> way to document downtime to prove to the provider there is a problem.

You could try:

ping -t www.yahoo.com > c:\logfile1.txt

and e-mail them that file after a few times the cable modem goes down.

You might want to look at these monitoring tools made available at the DSLReports site. If you think you'll have trouble convincing the provider it's nice to involve third party monitoring -- especially whe the provider knows that the outcome of any negotiations are likely to be posted at DSLReports!
