Hi,

I have a MP3 file of ambient music that's about an hour long. Basically, I want to be able to split this one large file into smaller segments, so that I can easily skip through to various segments of this one long "song". I have heard of SoundForge, but this program seems to be overkill for my needs. Any audiophiles out there that can recommend some other app, preferably free, that will do what I need?

Thanks in advance,

I use the WAV editor built into Nero. Works fine. I am normally chopping pieces out of very long MP3s (so I can save funny bits from the Stern show) - it would be even easier with shorter MP3s.

no need to decode to WAV and then back to MP3. Prolly one of the best trim, cut, eat your mp3s alive programs.

Just to be clear (I'm not saying it's the be-all-and-end-all), the Nero WAV Editor works on MP3s - no conversion is needed. You can open an MP3, edit it, and save it or a fragment of it as an MP3.

true. but look at that app. It's small and cool. Just for the people who don't have Nero or don't want a large install.
