I got here to late to weigh in. Did you find a proggy?

I have many old songs too that have those staticky interludes. I just delete them. If I liked what I heard, I buy the album or the song from itunes or walmart.com or weed.

Cheapest downloads anywhere (1cent per MB), tons of music, slick interface, and the best encoding of ANY online music store (I stick with Lame alt-standard 320kbps VBR, but lossless is also available).

Believe me, $10 at allofmp3 goes a long way, and it beats the hassle of P2P garbled crap.

If you're determined not to pay, stick with irc or newsgroups.

I've been using that. Seems okay. But I like a lot of hard to find music. Some music shoppes dont even have it. But Newsgroups, etc have it. So that's why I do it.
