Program to record line-in audio?

What's a good program to record audio? I want to save audio from my MD player to wav files as backup. I already transfered from audio cassette to MD, since I don't have a cassette player.. 😛 Ability to get rid of the audio cassette hissing would be great!

Free software would be preferable.
 
This is not a free program but if you want to work with audio files it's one of the best for the money. Sonic I have recorded over a 150 old albums and cleaned them up with this program. If you get the noise reduction plugin also it is amazing what can be done.
