Program to record from wave or stereo mixer.

I want to record from the wave that is the audio output from my PC otherwise called stereo or mono mixer sometimes.

I want to be able to record any sound that I can hear from the PC. I know I can set the recording device in windows to wave and that will work but only a single source and it degrades quality for some reason.

Is there any program (preferably free) that would allow me to capture strait from wave and still allow me to use the microphone as is so I can use both.

I don't need any editing, just good quality capturing without changing the windows recording device.

I have seen some mixing programs before that allow to record from microphone and from audio at the same time to mix them together. I don't know what it was or how to find something like it.
