Program to convert dvd to avi quickly for home server

I just got my system set up and it is ready for me to put my movies onto my server. I would love to just rip my movies to iso format, but at 4.4gb each space fills up fast. I would like to convert them to avi instead as they take up a third or less space. I am using AutoGK, but at almost 2 hours per movie it is painfully slow. Are there any better/faster programs to use instead? Thanks in advance.

Fairuse Wizard seems real popular and easy to use. AutoGK is too damn old, it's probably optimized for Pentium 3.
