I installed a program and it aborted halfway through intstllation. Now I can not remove it from ADD/REMOVE programs. Is there a way I can remove it still?

You can either remove it with TweakUI, or directly from the registry (which is what TweakUI modifies) in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall key.

Be aware, however, that there will likely be lingering files and registry entries given the circumstances you describe.

so basically with TweakUI all i would be doing is removing it from the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS menu and whatever was installed in terms of files would probably still be there.

Yes, TweakUI simply removes the entry from the Add/Remove Programs applet. Unfortunately, the only way to remove all traces of the program is to delete the installation directory and manually scrub the registry (or restore a backup...by default, Win98 keeps five backups from the last five successful bootups).

Yours is a commmon problem with aborted or failed installations, which is why I always run a scanner alongside all installations.

Best regards,

ok i have no idea how to use tweakui to clean up the add/remove programs menu at all. the program i want to remove is poser 4 and it tells me 'unPoser4.isu' is not valid. can anyone send me this file so i can try removing the program before using tweakui?

what i do, when i have that problem, is search the registry for any reference to it's name, or names. (like, search for adobe AND THEN photoshop)(just an example, i've never had photoshop)

and i delete the keys. then i go delete the folders. then attack the start menu. then run regclean.

of course, delete the wrong thing in the registry, and your system is toast.

Are you installing this from a cd-rw? Or a burned cd-rom?
What kind of cd-rom drive do you have?

I had a similar problem last weekend. All I did was changed the drive in my pc, and the program installed correctly.
