I put together a test teleconferencing system using Polycom PVX video conferencing software, a Dell Optiplex GX260, a BT848 capture card, video camera and Polycom SoundStation. It works well, except for the fact that the program automatically assumes you're using the Microphone input on your sound card. For whatever reason, the Microphone port and the Polycom PVX software don't like each other, so I'm forced to use the Line In.
I went through all the settings and I couldn't find anything to alter this weird behavior. I don't know what Software genius assumed that EVERYBODY would be using the exact same input line, but he didn't include any option to change it. In desperation, I created an account at Polycom and submitted a trouble ticket. The response was:
Wonderful. So now I'm forced to trying to find a way to either force Windows XP to use the Input port at all times (which would be fine with me) or to find a way to delete the other two Recording Control inputs that show up (Microphone and CD Rom). Which would ALSO be fine with me.
Does anybody have any thoughts on how to do either option? Force Windows XP to always use the Line In no matter what a software package tries to select, or permanently disable/uninstall the Microphone and CD-Rom sliders from the Recording Control.

Dear Creig,
I understand that you are trying to stop your PVX from changing Windows sound from ?Line In? to ?Microphone?. Unfortunately there is no way to stop this from happening. As for our software we are currently working on a new version. That will work on Windows Vista.
