Is there a simple, free prog i can use to store something like a txt file of passwords? I was thinking of using something like winrar, but I don't know if that's secure enough.

Thanks for all the suggestions, i'll be looking into them. However, no one has answered the question of whether or not a passworded winrar zip is safe enough.

 Likewise. It just can't be beat, and can be put on a flash memory device that allows you to port your passwords (they are encrypted in the program's file) to your laptop or other system. But - it ain't free - it is extremely reasonable. Don't be a "cheap Charlie." :)

I used Pasword Safe before switching to KeePass, which seemed a bit more polished to me.
I was able to export my Password Safe data and import it into KeePass without issues.

They are both free programs and both do a fine job.

I use pwsafe, a password safe clone. I'll definitely be checking out passwordsafe 3.0 and keepass though (if I can get it to run on my password keeping machine).
