Because Anandtech doesn't condone things like that. If you want to circumvent policy and get yourself fired you should at least put forth the effort to do it on your own.

Who else will do it if not me?
All I need is a link to a guide, not such a terrible thing to ask is it now?

If it requires you to circumvent the issue, you shouldn't be doing it. You won't get any sympathy from people here who work on networks that people like you screw up and try to fvck with.

point being, there are enough network/sys/server admins here who deal with folks trying to circimvent the system, when a simple "He Paul, XXX need more storage space for project X, what can we do" from your manager would do the trick just fine (or even you).

Also understand WHY quotas exist. Storage space represents real $$ to companies. Especially when someone puts them at legal risk with questionable content on there very expensive NAS with redunancy and daily full backups.

Yea, it won't take long for them to notice that you're over your quota when the backups start spanning more tapes than normal.

We had a number of employees terminated for trying to circumvent system policies on their machines. They were trying to install unauthorized software in this case. The funny thing is though if they had asked about installing it we probably would have let them do it since it was demo software.

The moral is just ask your IT dept. Chances are they will be willing to accomondate your request if it's possible. Ever think that the policy is in effect because there is limited storage space? What if some other project now runs out of storage space at a critical moment because of you? But then again people that ask this type of question usually only care about themselves and not the rest of the company.

I don't deal with the backups, but I know the guys that do and I know that they know how many tapes are needed on what days and when that changes it raises some flags.
