Found this off CNN. Thought it was interesting. CNN article

Heh...so now, think of how much money you've either wasted or earned (depending on how you think of being on atot forums all day). :)

His time is obviously woth nothing since he spent time on this crap.
How can he say that it costs money to cook dinner and wash the car? I can belive that if someone does it during working hours, but who does that!?

I'm guessing you aren't associated with academia. Professors have nothing to do but write crappy books to get tenure. Once they have tenure, they can sleep through the rest of their years :)

Since publicity => tenure, this guy is set. or perhaps he just wants some cheap publicity for his next book.

Yes I do work in the academic world.

The basic assumption is that you could find a guaranteed part time job at your current wage or are guaranteed to work as many hours a day as you please at your normal job. For most people this assumption is not perfectly accurate. If I wanted to a part time job instead of mowing the lawn, I doubt I could find a job at my same hourly wage.

But for some people this works. For example, suppose you have a job where you choose the hours you work (many self employed jobs for example). In this case, you can work 5 hours today and do 3 hours of chores - or work 8 hours today and hire a maid. That formula would let you know which one is the better choice (assuming you enjoy chores just as much as you enjoy working). The article's goal is to let some people know that they may be better off with a choice they didn't think they had (working more and then spending more to have their day-to-day routines done quicker).

Girls = Time x Money
Since Time = Money
Girls = Money ^ 2
Money = SQRT(Evil)
Girls = (SQRT(Evil)) ^ 2

Girls = Evil

Thank goodness he proved time = money, otherwise, it couldn't be PROVEN that Girls = Evil! =)

The article also ignores the fact that people have physical or mental limits on how much of their work they can do (or do well) in a day or week.

I actually earn more per hour consulting than my normal salary, but after 8-9 hours writing software during the day if I then spend another 3 hours coding in the evening I get progressively less productive after a few days.

Most people aren't capable of doing their work well 16 hours a day, 7 days a week so some of the "lost" wages are as imaginary as the billions the RIAA claims it loses to p2p sharing.

The article's goal is to let some people know that they may be better off with a choice they didn't think they had ...
True, and a better statement of the idea than in the article itself :) [ edit=typos ]

You obviously are not associated with academia since you have no clue what exactly professors do.

The academia consists of some of the most intelligent people who received their Ph.D. after years of work on topics that they have an extremely strong passion for. They know better than hiring and offering benefits to bogus ones with cheap publicity.

Ask any one of them to do a "real" task in life, and you will find them totally helpless, especially with the really simple stuff, like just emptying a gargbage can. They are a waste of skin. If I wanted a knowlege base, I could read one, but I refuse to listen to any of these $40K per year buttwipes with all their credentials, who must think about every decision and concept that comes into their lives. I'll bet they piss their pants a lot in life, simply because they must make the decision, "to go , or not to go". ;)

That's like arguing that computer geeks are buttwipes because they are helpless when it comes to women, they never take a shower, and they piss on their pants because they might go to a vacation where there is no broadband Internet connection for 3 days.

Yes I noticed the sarcasm ;) but I wanted to make a point that I know a lot of incredible people in the academia.

Those who give a bad name are usually those who go to grad school because they can't get a job and develop an enormous ego because they got M.A., M.Sc. or Ph.D. after their name.
