Professional video cards - gaming performance?

Looking into getting a Quardro 4500 in my next machine (mainly for 3D graphics). Anyone know how they do with games?

Sometimes slightly slower in games, but basically comparable to their consumer-level counterpart. In your case, it'll be like a 7800GTX (470MHz core, 1.05GHz GDDR3)

- M4H

If I remember correctly, the 4500 is a 7800, the 3400 is a 6800 etc. They perform similarly to their coutnerpart card in gaming... at about 5x the price. Essentially the difference involves how drivers handle OpenGL among other things, and most of the price involved is in the drivers.

The pro cards are tuned for accuracy, not framerates. Minor errors that a gaming card allows for the sake of speed are redone in a pro card as well.

yeah, no kidding, the prices for these cards are jacked up, way up there (for the time being)

precision is a developers idea of creating the best they can offer with the time and talent they posses.

I wonder how 3Dlabs is taking ATI and nVidia? I'd love to see them release gaming cards, LoVe~
