A friend is a photog and wants her own site similar to http://www.hsuphotography.com/lucille/index2.php

I haven't kept up with Flash in a few years and I'm sure they use some XML in there for calling which photos where, but is there a trick to doing this stuff? I looked for templates but they don't provide what information/instructions are included with the template. Anyone in the business or know someone who is capable / knowledgeable?

It sounds like you're looking for help building one? If not, have your friend check out www.bludomain.com . The sell complete flash sites for as low as $100. Very popular with photographers who don't want to shell out the money for a completely custom site.

Just about every professional photographer's website that I have seen (and I'm related to some) use bludomain. To me, it is fantastic if you don't want to put any thought into the website and if you want it to look good for cheap. But, it is quite limiting in what you can do and you look like every other photographer in the business. Those can be two big negatives. Your friend needs to decide to go the cheap bludomain route, the homebuilt crappy website route, or the very expensive professionally done and good looking route. Since the photography business is all about looks, I highlight VERY expensive.

Man, I remember the day when you were boo-hooed for having too much Flash on your site. Actually, too much can still be annoying.

In other news, she has some harsh bokeh on those wedding samples.

photobiz.com is another option.

Or, you can use a content management system such as Wordpress. I built the "untzphoto.com" site in my sig in only a few hours. Plug-ins make it easy to turn into a photoblog or photo website.

thx all... it was also mentioned to me that wordpress has extensions that may help with this photo thing? I thought it was just a blog platform. Not seeing what they mean.

BTW I did try out wix but being that she wants this to be professional, the ad they put on it is not desirable.
My site was all flash only because I was experimenting - that was when I learned at the same time.

What kind of photographer is she? I think that will determine what site to use.

both people and landscapes... not sure if there are actual categories. ;)

Ok, well I use Smugmug which allows me to sell prints to customers. A little pricey but it saves me a lot of hassle as far as purchasing and printing goes.

Probably not what she is looking for
